What you'll need to make a wire ring
If you're using one of our kits, everything is already sorted for you — the wire comes pre-cut for convenience, and each kit makes four rings. Having a small pair of pliers handy might come in useful for some steps, but it's not essential. Making rings from your own supplies? You'll want roughly 30cm of craft wire per ring and a bead with a hole large enough for the wire to pass through.
Safety first, fun second: wire ends can be sharp, so work on a stable surface, keep small parts away from children, and take your time.
How to make a wire wrapped ring in 4 steps
Step 1: Position your bead and shape the ring
Slide your bead to the middle of the wire, then wrap the wire around your finger until the ends meet back at the bead. This is what sets your ring size — wrap around the finger you actually want to wear it on, keeping the wire snug but not tight.
Step 2: Curve the wire around the bead
Bend the wire just before it reaches the bead, then start curving it around the side of the bead. Repeat this for both ends. This is what creates that lovely wire-wrapped frame around your bead — the signature look of a handmade wire ring.
Step 3: Wrap the ends to secure
At the other end of the bead, wrap the wire around both band wires. Keep wrapping until you run out of wire, then repeat for both ends. These little coils lock everything in place and give the ring its finished, professional look.
Step 4: Tidy up and try it on
Check there are no sharp ends sticking out that could catch or scratch. Adjust the wire until it looks just right — and enjoy your new ring! Remember, these steps are just guidelines.
